Gungahlin Lakes recorded its first victory of the season with a 3.5/2.5 win over Yowani at Royal Canberra.

While three matches which resulted in 6/5 scorelines might indicate one-sided affairs, nothing could be further from the truth. Quite the reverse. Very good golf was required to win.

Of note was the ‘power house play” of Gavin Macauley who smashed his drives huge distances into ideal positions, for example driving onto the 7th green to give himself an eagle putt. Chris Dunstone, one of the 6/5 winners, also has the ability to make a course look much shorter than it is, while his opponent Ian Gibson, was always lurking to take advantage of any mistakes. Dave McGibbon was his usual steady self while Ross McLoughlin who loves to attract attention by taking his match to the last hole, did it again, this time to end in a tight square result.
