Cooma hosted the final match of the preliminary round for Division 2.
A Reserve Division 2 Pennants
Two matches would determine the semi finalists, Federal against Queanbeyan; and Gold Creek versus Murrumbidgee, after the Cooma versus Fairbairn match was forfeited by Fairbairn.
Federal vs Queanbeyan
In strong winds and the threat of rain the matches got underway. Queanbeyan held an early advantage through the first half dozen holes, and after nine holes the match was even with 3 apiece.
Tom Darmody got the first result with a 5 and 4 win over Federal’s Wally Gregory. Glen Collins played solid golf at number 3 for Federal and evened the match with a 3 and 2 result over Alistair Freeth. Sam Shadbolt playing at number one for Federal closed out his match on the 16th against Josh Crockett 3 and 2.
Three matches remained to determine who would play finals. Stephen Dunn and Anthony de Jonge halved their match, as did Rory Ardlie and Mal Downey. Rory won the last two holes to recover the match and a half. Steve Wyatt playing at number 4 won 17 and 18 to win 2 up against James Bull.
The final result was a 4-2 win which secured Federal’s place at the top of the division.
Murrumbidgee vs Gold Creek
In the other match, Gold Creek defeated Murrumbidgee 4.5-1.5 with wins to Jamie Rek, Devra Mitra, Richard Bance and Phil Mackey for Goldies, whilst Ross Oakman secured a point for Murrumbidgee.
Federal and Gold Creek finished the season unbeaten and both disappointed their match was the washout. Semi finals will continue after Easter with venues to be advised.
