NSW Golf Association Media Release on distance measuring devices

Recently The NSW Golf Association ratified the use of distance measuring devices (View PDF of media release). The ACT Monaro DGA has included the same local rule for all of its future competitions.

Distance-Measuring Devices: A player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. However, if, during a stipulated round a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (eg, gradient, windspeed, temperature, etc), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.

The following statement was included in their media release on 14th March 2008. Club Committees are also encouraged to consider the introduction of a Local Rule to accommodate the use of Distance Measuring Devices. When doing so, the wording above is recommended.

The DGA further encourages that all clubs in this district include this in their local rules.

Yours sincerely
Tony Gover
