BEST EVER HANDICAP: 6 (for a week!). The day after I had a par round, 72,  at Mollymook Hilltop course.

CURRENT AND PAST CLUBS: Started at Duntry League, Orange. Founding member, with others, of Belconnen Golf Club in 1975. Gungahlin Lakes from 2000.

AGE FIRST PLAYED GOLF: 10 years of age. Starting handicap 16. I swore if I ever exceeded this, I would rack up the clubs. Currently off 17 and still playing.

BEST GOLFING TIP: Take enough club. The majority of amateur golfers rarely hit it past the pin.

BEST GOLFING PERFORMANCE: Winning the Belconnen Club Championship in 1978. Quite a few of the main competitors later turned professional.

THE WINNING ROUND: It was the ACT Veterans September Monthly Medal played on the 4th at Queanbeyan, probably my least favourite course in the District. The highlight of the round was 10 pars by the 15th – five on the front and five on the back. The key was I stayed out of the trees, putted well and played smart. I had 41 points (interestingly, the Vets AGM held on the 18th decided that Monthly medals will be stroke in future). An interesting side line is that Harold Whitby who is a member at Queanbeyan came second with 38 points. Harold is in his 90s, plays off 27 and still pushes a golf cart!!
