The Gold Creek annual two person ambrose was held on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November.
The event was played off the black tees which at Gold Creek can be severely punishing. Thankfully there were no rules regarding minimum number of drives and both players could place the ball rather than having to drop. The greens and fairways were in outstanding condition. The greens were fast but not excessively.
The women’s event scratch event was taken out by Narelle Downing and Paula Anderson with a two day score of 144 from Kerry Scott and Molly Perren-Leveridge who had a two day score of 149.
The women’s net event was won by Tiana McLeod and Debbie Hogan with a net two day score of 138. They won from Carol Sinclair and Fiona Wicks with a net two day score of 146.
The men’s scratch event was won by Paul Thinius and Mark Boulton with a two day scratch score of 131: that is 15 under par. Mark said he was driving from Sydney to Melbourne and received a call to play in the event as he was just passing through Canberra.
Paul and Mark won from Richard Bance and Scott Fogg who were the overnight leaders but fell away to a two day scratch score of 133. Following them were Shane Seaton and Jon Ricks on 134; Scott Harris and Dave Evans on 135 and Kent Donally and Dev Mitraj on 136.
The men’s net event was won by Alex Gutierrez and Tim Hourigan, both from Gungahlin Lakes (see featured image). They had a net two day score of 129 and won on a countback from Rob Hamilton and Spiro Mormanis. They were followed by Scott Broadhead and Simon Dooley (also from Gungahlin Lakes) with a two day net score of 130.5; Rob Ticehurst and Phil Harry on net 131; and Ron Zarczynski and John Soltyszwski on 131.5.
