Champions for the 2017 Winter Junior Week of Golf were Chloe Thornton and Lachlan Chamberlain. Both finished the week with 293 gross. Chloe with rounds of 73, 78, 74, 68 and Lachlan’s rounds of 74, 71, 67, 81.

Murrumbidgee, Belconnen, Yass and Federal again hosted the Winter Junior “Week” of Golf and these clubs are thanked for their contribution to the juniors of the area. Each day the players started competition in heavy frost but were happy that there was not the rain that spoilt 2016.

54 registered golfers most of whom played all days and 7 sub juniors participated on at least two of the days. This year I was assisted in supervision each day by DGA President Barry Morgan and Sue Harrison JPO of CSGA. The new Golf Box system was being used for the first time and our tournament was a test. Most areas are very user friendly but solving other issues on the day would not finish until evening where some scores would be recorded on Excel. The issues to suit our competition will be discussed and hopefully solved prior to the spring holiday golf week.

After a break for lunch Sue took our two little “Energizer Bunnies” Madison and Rachel out onto the course for a few more holes.

Day 4 Federal – On Thursday as I drove over the hill prior to 8am all was white, the sun was shining and a few of our juniors were already practicing and certainly ready to play. We had the opportunity to use both front and back nine which ensured all players were present for lunch and trophy presentations.

Chloe Thornton finished the tournament with an amazing five below par 68 and five shots ahead of Brett Levier. The Federal club is checking to see if this score can claim a course record. Chloe’s front nine, 8 pars and birdie while on the back nine Chloe recorded a birdie at the 12th, slipped with a bogey on 15th and then finished with three birdies. Third in gross was Adam Thorp with 75. Division 1 Stableford Will Brearley (Federal) 40 with Michael Nguyen (G/Lakes) 39 on count back from Sam Wicks (G/Lakes).
