With the ACT Monaro District Pennants competition fortunately able to resume some 5 months after the competition was suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions, the balmy autumn conditions under which Pennants finals are traditionally played certainly were not in evidence on Sunday 16 August.

Players and spectators endured very different wintery conditions at Yowani for the premier A Grade Pennants trophy contest between Royal Canberra and Goulburn.

Under overcast skies and with biting winds worsening through the afternoon, Royal Canberra’s team prevailed over Goulburn to take home the historic Southern Highlands Golf Association Senior Pennants Shield.

In a tight contest, the result remained in the balance until Royal’s No 1 Harry Bolton holed a tricky downhill birdie putt on the 18th to overcome Goulburn’s Dominic Falk with a 2-up win.

With Royal then holding an unbeatable 4-2 lead, the No 4s of Charlie Cameron (Royal) and Scott Nolan (Goulburn) decided to share the points for their match, which was square after 18 holes, then 19, and proceeding down the 20th at the time!

The contest was held in great spirit, with the tight Yowani layout testing the skills of some of the District’s best amateur golfers.

Congratulations to both teams for a great final.
